Lopi is a community engagement platform that supports green space planning from the revitalisation of small urban squares to the creation of parks and it is based on local data and community input.

Design parks, recreational areas and green spaces in line with the needs of residents and nature!

Public consultations and green spaces – key challenges

Effective planning of parks, squares, community forests, and other green areas requires both expert knowledge and reliable data, as well as broad public engagement. However, collecting opinions from diverse groups especially those who are less active or time-constrained remains a challenge.

Precise spatial referencing of expectations is crucial. Without indicating specific locations it is difficult to identify real needs related to green spaces.

Once opinions have been collected, another challenge arises: analyzing the data and presenting the results in a clear and accessible way.

The lack of appropriate tools to present the outcomes of consultations often makes residents feel overlooked and gives them the impression that their voices have no real impact on final decisions.

Yet transparency and clear communication of results are key to building trust and public support for ecological and environmental projects.

Another major challenge is reconciling the often conflicting expectations of green spaces.
– from recreation and sports, through nature protection and tranquillity, to infrastructure or development needs. Residents do not always understand why one solution was chosen over another and they often lack knowledge about the ecological value of specific areas and the restrictions associated with them. This is why education and clear communication between residents, officials, and experts are so important.

Benefits

We understand the challenges of planning green spaces

and know how to address them.

For years, we have been supporting cities and municipalities in conducting public consultations on public spaces, including parks, squares, and green and protected areas.
With LOPI you can plan green spaces that truly respond to the needs of residents and the local ecosystem.

See what LOPI provides:

1

Reaching diverse social groups

Thanks to LOPI’s tools it is possible to effectively engage diverse social groups, including those who rarely take part in traditional consultations; such as: young people, busy professionals, or residents living outside the city center.
2

Precise location of needs.

Residents can accurately mark on the map where green spaces are lacking, where revitalization is needed, or what should be located—and where—within a given park. This spatial precision eliminates misunderstandings and makes it easier to plan well-targeted solutions.
3

Data analysis and visualization

All data is processed in real time and presented in the form of clear maps, charts, and dashboards. This facilitates needs assessment, results presentation, and data-driven decision-making.
4

Better communication and education

With LOPI you can not only collect feedback but also educate residents and explain the environmental value of a given area as well as the broader context behind planning decisions. This strengthens understanding, acceptance, and a sense of real influence.
5

Transparency and trust building

LOPI helps create processes based on dialogue and transparency. Clear data presentation and open communication strengthen residents’ trust in consultations and decisions related to green spaces.
6

Substantive and technical support

The LOPI team actively supports, advises, and trains public officials both before and during public consultations. This ensures that consultations are well prepared and that the entire process runs smoothly.

Lopi connects data and space

LOPI is a unique combination of a geo-survey (LopiAsk), a discussion forum (LopiTalk), and an interactive map.
These online tools make it possible to quickly and cost-effectively reach a large, diverse group of residents.
All our modules are spatially enabled, allowing not only the collection but also the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.

Map as a point of reference

Residents can mark specific places on an interactive map and precisely indicate the locations of their needs or ideas.

Transparency and trust

The results are presented in a transparent way, and residents can see what happens next with their input.

Dialogue space

LOPI enables and supports communication. Residents can ask questions, share opinions, and comment on proposals, while officials and experts have the opportunity to explain their decisions.

Can LOPI be used for any consultation topic?

Is LOPI difficult for officials to use?

Do residents need special knowledge or an app to participate in consultations?

No. Residents do not need any special knowledge.

Our tools run directly in a web browser and are easy to use; they can be accessed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. For digitally excluded users, consultations can also be organized with the support of an interviewer.
