Public consultations and green spaces – key challenges

Effective planning of parks, green spaces or community forests requires not only expert knowledge, but above all reliable data and broad citizen engagement. Yet, gathering the opinions of different groups, especially those who are less active or busy, is still a challenge.

Precise location of the reported issuess and expectations is crucial. Without pinpointing exact locations, it is difficult to identify actual green space needs.

Once the opinions have been collected, the next task arises: analyzing the data and presenting the results in a clear and understandable way.

The lack of appropriate tools to present the results of consultations often leaves residents feeling overlooked and believing that their voice has little real impact on final decisions. Meanwhile, transparency and informing the community about the outcomes are crucial for building trust and support for ecological and environmental projects.

Another major challenge is reconciling the often conflicting expectations of green spaces.
– from recreation and sports to nature conservation and quiet areas, as well as infrastructural or development needs. Residents do not always understand why one solution was chosen over another and often lack knowledge about the ecological value of specific areas and the restrictions associated with them. This is why education and clear communication between residents, officials, and experts are so important.

Benefits

We understand the challenges of planning green spaces and know how to address them.

For years, we have been supporting cities and municipalities in conducting public consultations on public spaces – including parks, squares or green and protected areas.
With LOPI, you can design green spaces that truly meet the needs of residents and the local ecosystem.

See what LOPI provides:

1

Reaching diverse social groups

Thanks to LOPI’s tools, it is possible to effectively engage diverse social groups, including those who rarely participate in traditional consultations, such as young people, busy professionals, or residents living outside the city center.
2

Precise identyfication of needs

Residents can mark on the map where green areas are missing, where revitalization is needed, or what functions a park should serve. This eliminates misunderstandings and makes it easier to plan effective solutions.
3

Data analysis and visualization

All data is processed in real time and presented in the form of easy-to-read maps, charts and dashboards. This facilitates the identification of needs, the presentation of results, and decision-making based on reliable data.
4

Better communication and education

With LOPI you can not only collect opinions but also educate – explaining to residents the natural value of a given area and the context of decisions being made. This fosters understanding, acceptance, and a sense of influence.
5

Transparency and trust building

LOPI helps create processes based on dialogue and transparency. Clear presentation of data and open communication strengthen residents’ trust in consultations and decisions related to green spaces.
6

Expert and technical support

The LOPI team actively supports, advises, and trains officials before and during public consultations on green area and environmental protection.

Lopi connects data and space

LOPI is a unique combination of geosurvey (LopiAsk), discussion forum (LopiTalk) and an interactive map.
These online tools allow us to reach a large, diverse group of residents quickly and cost-effectively.
All our modules have spatial attributes and enable not only collection, but also analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.

Map as a point of reference

Residents can mark specific places on the interactive map and indicate the exact locations of their needs or ideas.

Transparency and trust

The results are presented transparently, allowing residents to see what happens next with their feedback.

Dialogue space

LOPI enables and supports communication. Residents can ask questions, share opinions, and comment on proposals, while officials and experts have the opportunity to explain their decisions.

Can LOPI be used for any consultation topic?

Is LOPI difficult for officials to use?

Do residents need special knowledge or an app to participate in consultations?

No. Residents do not need any special knowledge.

Our tools work directly in a web browser and are easy to use – you can use them on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. For digitally excluded participants, consultations can also be organized with the support of an interviewer.
